The Largest Hydrogen Filling Station Built in Shanghai Enhances the Commercialization of Fuel Cells Back List >August 2019![]() On June 5, the
topping off ceremony of the hydrogen filling station built by both SAIC Motor
and Shanghai Chemical Industry Park was held at the Chemical Industry Park. This
is an important achievement resulted from the strategic cooperation between the
two parties. The construction will further accelerate the process of
commercialization of SAIC Motor’s hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and give impulse
to the development of Shanghai as a first rate world-class innovation centre
and industrial metropolis for fuel cell vehicles.
As the only
company in China that is operating three alternative energy vehicles technology
at full scale, which includes electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles and
fuel cell vehicles, SAIC Motor insists on developing with regard to both market
and technology. It leads the country and is second to none in the world in
terms of the core technologies of fuel cell vehicles, and it participated
enthusiastically in formulating 15 national guidelines for fuel cells and took
the lead in achieving commercialized operation of hydrogen fuel cell cars and
vans in the country.
Being the
largest and the most advanced hydrogen filling station in the world at present,
the station in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park occupies around 8000 square
metre and is capable of supplying around 2 tonne hydrogen per day. It has the
ability to fill commercial hydrogen fuel cells in the pressure of 35MPa or
70MPa while provides services including hydrogen filling, torpedo cars filling,
as well as electric vehicles maintaining and charging.
Sunwin’s
fuel cell buses, which are the dedicated vehicles in the operational
demonstration of United Nations Development Program, have been running a
commercial operation in Shanghai Jiading Bus Route 114 since the end of last
year, with a grand total of 170 days lasted and 120,000 kilometre travelled.
Developing
hydrogen fuel cell buses is a critical path for following the trend of global automotive
industry which is currently in transition and attaining a transformation from
big in size to big in power in China’s automotive industry. It is an important example
that shows Shanghai’s thorough implementation of the policy, Innovation-Driven
Development Strategy, in the country. In the future, Sunwin will continue to
promote independent research in the core technologies of fuel cells steadily
while intensify the exploration of the use of alternative energy together with
other cooperating partners, so as to enhance high-quality development by
technological innovation and make contribution to accelerate Shanghai’s
progress on global innovation centre development goal.
